Nicole's Event Update

Well, so far this year we have had some really great events. If you attended any or all of them, I hope you would agree! If you didn't get a chance to come to anything lately, here is what we've been up to. In January we had Bingo night, which was really fun - we played Bingo, laughed a lot, ate great food and won prizes! We also had a family Ice Skating event at Castle Ice in Renton - what a fun experience that was. I hadn't Ice Skated in probably 20 years, but I picked it right up where I left off and had a blast! I was a bit sore the next day, though.

In February we had our BABES Annual One-Day Retreat, which was awesome. In total 23 BABES and staff were present, and we had a great day! We had a talk on Nutrition with Ying Yu from Bastyr University, an HIV Jeopardy game with Laury McKean, RN, from Country Doctor, which was very fun and educational.

Tita Begshaw came from Harborview and taught us how "Laughter is Healing." Susan Cook did chair massages, and Terry Mac gave full-body massages. We made self-care crafts, such as eye pillows, potpourri sachets, and scented bath salts. Our catered lunch and breakfast was provided by Lilianna Eagan from Gilead Sciences, who also did a presentation on HIV in Spanish to our Latina women. At the end of the retreat we raffled off self-care baskets, which were filled with girly bath products and other self-oriented items. And of course, there was lots of singing and dancing!

We hope that you check out what's going on in our newsletter every month to try to get involved with these fun activities. It feels very comforting to be around other women who understand the struggles we go through as women living with HIV/AIDS.

Hope to see you soon ... maybe at the Family Movie Night on March 8th or the BABES Night Out on March 29th!
