Volume 13 Issue 3 - Page 3 May 2005

(Continued from Page 3)

Sarah's Hello….

Hello! My name is Sarah Benton, and I just started as the Program Manager here at BABES Network on March 28, 2005, shortly after we became a program of the YWCA. I've enjoyed getting to know those of you who've stopped into the BABES office over the course of the past few weeks - and I had a great time with everyone who came to the Sonics game in mid-April! - so I really hope to meet more BABES in the near future.

I am not only new to BABES, but also new to the Seattle area. Before moving to Seattle on New Year's Eve, I lived in Washington, DC, where I worked at a non-profit organization that provides meals and nutritional counseling to people living with AIDS, cancer, and other illnesses. I am originally from Madison, Wisconsin, but I also lived for eight years in Rochester, New York, where I studied Public Health and Spanish at the University of Rochester and worked in a hospital emergency room. I also spent a summer during this time living in Oaxaca, Mexico, where I learned to speak Spanish, dance Salsa and Meringue, and cook spicy Mexican food!

Right now I live in Capitol Hill with my fiancé, Graham, and our two cats, Foster and Darwin. My favorite thing to do when I'm not at work is knit. Knitting is the way that I express myself creatively. I never really thought of myself as a creative person until I learned how to knit two years ago, but now I can create beautiful scarves, purses, ponchos, and blankets, and all it takes is a pair of knitting needles, a little yarn, my own two hands, and some imagination! Knitting is a great stress reliever - and finishing a project gives you a wonderful sense of accomplishment! - so I really hope that some of you will join us for the BABES Stitch-N-Bitch Knitting event on May 11th.

I am so excited to be here at BABES Network, and I am truly honored to have this opportunity to work with such an amazing group of women. I look forward to meeting all of you soon. Be well, be creative, and stay in touch!

Peace,
Sarah

Un saludo de Sarah

¡Hola!

Paz,
Sarah
