Goodbye
I joined the BABES Network Staff in July of 2003
as interim executive director, seven months after Jesse Chipps left. It was a
hot summer and we had many challenges. With the support and help of the board
and many volunteers we held a three day retreat, moved to new offices, were
given new office furniture, and replaced two of our oldest computers during the
first four months. BABES Network continued to experience a great deal of change
and transition as the organization responded to decreasing funding, increasing
needs for record keeping, and the impact of social changes. At the same time
HIV began to slip off the community radar screen as a priority, BABES members
experienced a new level of stability issues. Homelessness among our members
rose from 18% to 32% during 2003. The BABES Network Team restructured and
rallied, meeting all of our contractual obligations and reconnecting with many
HIV + women who had been out of touch for years. Teamwork and creativity have
brought us to a more stable time.
You BABES have taught me so much. I am so grateful
to have been a part of this wonderful organization. You are courageous,
inspiring, resourceful, and strong. You have reminded me how to play and made
me laugh in the middle of the most difficult months of my life. You helped me
learn how to cope with my husband's life threatening illness and death. You
have given me so much. Thank you.
I look forward to seeing your beautiful faces
again. By the time you read this I will have transformed from an executive
director into a BABES Network-YWCA volunteer. Though I'm moving out of the
office, I will still hold BABES Network and all of you in my heart.

Despedida de Trina….
Me uní a BABES
Network-YWCA en julio del 2003 como directora ejecutiva, siete meses
después de que Jesse Chipps se fue. Ese fue un verano caluroso y tuvimos
muchos retos. Con el apoyo y ayuda de la Directiva y muchos voluntarios tuvimos
un retiro de tres días, nos mudamos a una nueva oficina, nos dieron
muebles de oficina nuevos y reemplazamos dos de nuestras computadoras
más viejas en los primeros cuatro meses. BABES Network continuó
experimentando cambios y transiciones al responder a la disminución de
fondos, a la necesidad de mantener archivos y al impacto de cambios sociales.
Al mismo tiempo que HIV empezó a aparecer en la pantalla de la comunidad
como una prioridad, las BABES experimentaron un nuevo nivel de problemas de
estabilidad. Nuestras miembras sin techo se incrementaron de 18% a 32% durante
2003. El equipo reestructurado y organizado de BABES Network cumplió con
todas las obligaciones contraídas y nos reconectamos con muchas mujeres
VIH+ que habían estado fuera de contacto por años. El trabajo en
equipo y creatividad nos trajo más estabilidad.
Ustedes BABES me han
enseñado mucho. Estoy muy agradecida por haber sido parte de esta
organización maravillosa. Ustedes son valientes, inspiradoras,
ingeniosas y fuertes. Ustedes me recordaron como jugar y me hicieron
reír en medio de los meses más difíciles de mi vida.
Ustedes me ayudaron como superar la enfermedad y muerte de mi esposo. Ustedes
me han dado mucho. Muchas gracias.
Espero ver sus caras
hermosas otra vez. Para cuando lean esto yo me habré transformado de
directora ejecutiva en voluntaria de BABES Network-YWCA. Aunque estoy
desocupando mi oficina, todavía mantendré a BABES Network y a
todas ustedes en mi corazón.
