Being Creative
by Margot

Creativity is such an interesting thing! It means something different for every person! For many years of my life I proclaimed myself as one of the most uncreative people around. I couldn't even draw a straight line with a ruler. I think a lot of that came from having taken care of others for so many years. When you involve yourself in others, you often forget how to turn to yourself. When I retired from the work force, I found myself with so much time on my hands, it was hard to find something to do! In my working years, I created a loving and nurturing place in which others could rest. Not having that anymore made me restless. I said to myself, "This is what you wanted, find something to do." I began my art, called Botonapaije". I used live botanicals, such as flowers and leaves, with glass as the medium, let it dry, and sprayed it with acrylic. I was amazed! Not only had I created something, it was pretty. I felt like Stewart from MAD TV, saying "look what I can do!" Then one day I picked up a pen, and began to write. I wrote articles for the BABES Newsletter, I wrote a poem, entered it in a contest, and won! Then Lo and Behold, I wrote/created a book which is awaiting publication. What amazed me the most was my actual ability to create. Everyday is a new creation, and everyday we are given the ability to create something new. Don't waste time waiting for something to be created, look into yourself, because you never know what creativity is inside you, waiting to be released.

Being Creative

¡Yo me maravillé!
