Volume 13 Issue 6 - Page 5 June 2005

Another important factor is your level of compliance. If your concerns about lipodystrophy are causing you to miss doses, you definitely need to talk with your provider. Missing more than 5% of your doses can lead to drug resistance. If you are missing doses, it's very important to be honest with your provider so the two of you can come up with a strategy that you're both happy with. If you don't feel you can be honest with your provider, it's time to find a new provider.

If you do decide to take a break from your medications, you absolutely must tell your provider before you stop the meds. Drugs stay in your body for different lengths of time. If you simply stop taking all your medications at the same time, some will leave your body quickly while others can hang around for several weeks. This can cause drug resistance. Usually the medications have to be stopped in a very specific way depending on which medications you are on.

What Do You Want To Know?

The BABES Network staff has been wondering, "What is it that you would like to know about women and HIV?" We are going to let you ask the questions that you have been wanting to ask but never get around to asking. It can be about medications (new and old), side effects, or where we positive people are statistically today. Any questions would be welcomed and we will try our best to get those answered. In November Laury McKean RN, was a guest speaker at our Harvest Dinner. Some of you heard her information packed presentation and were able to ask her questions about women and HIV at that time. Laury has been gracious enough to let us put in a special column in our newsletter for the BABES to ask her those mind boggling questions and those that are not so mind boggling. You may choose to submit your questions in your own name or make up a new one to protect your identity. You can send in your questions via e-mail to tonya@babesnetwork.org or call at (206) 720-5566 x16
