It's a
Miracle by Jane
It was 1980, and I just graduated from high
school. I did not know what was ahead of me, what life was going to offer from
here on. At least I had a job. I was learning my family's restaurant business.
The restaurant had been operating since 1966, in the small town of Voi, located
in the Taita Hill of Kenya. I knew my 'O' levels (high school records, as we
called them in Kenya) were not going to be out until the following year. One
weekend was very busy for us. We had a live band and so there were many people
from out of town. The cashier needed some change and the banks were closed. I
had to try and get some change from other stores that were opened. As I walked
towards the bus stop, there were a lot of venders and I knew they could help
me.
I bumped into a very old friend. Her name is
Elizabeth. We were both in the same school, Coast Girls High School. At the end
of the first year, she dropped out. I don't know what had happened to her. We
were very close because we shared a room at Mama Ngina Hostel. She quickly
remembered me. When she called my name, I was very surprised to see her.
Accompanying Eizabeth was another lady, Named Beverly. Later that night, they
joined me at the club. We all had a very nice tie except for Beverly. Her
English was difficult to understand. I asked Beverly to Speak Swahili so that
we can communicate better. She said that she did not know how to speak
Swahili.

Alberque Mama Nigna. Me reconoció rapidamente y cuadndo me llamo por mi
nombre, me sorprendió veria. Acompañándola iba otra chica,
