Self-Care 2015

How are you managing stress?

For our Winter 2015 BABES Talking Newsletter, we interviewed BABES members to find out ways that they manage their stress.

We asked these questions:

1. What are some effective ways you have come up with to help you better manage stress in your life?

2. What are some fun and creative ways you care for yourself (dance, sing, play, paint, etc.)?

3. How easy is it for you to say no to requests from others?  When we are overwhelmed, learning to say “no” can help give you some needed time for yourself.  If saying “no” is hard for you, what barriers get in your way?  How can you overcome some of those barriers?

4. Do you have a spiritual practice?  If so, how does this help in managing your stress?

Here’s how Shelly manages her stress:

1. I often better manage my stress with meditation & yoga. I am also blessed to have a great support system.

2. I find most often that I find comfort in fresh brewed long cut teas…. I also find great comfort in star gazing. I also color…draw… sew, crochet & bake {not all at the same time}.

3. I am very  capable of saying “no”… I often find myself putting me last. I’ve learned to be aware when I over- extend myself to stand up and say so. It is a lot easier to say “no” than cancel or do less than I would be able to if I am not over-extended.

4. I am a Spiritual Person. I avoid secular Religions.  I have found that I do not fit in to conformity and set practices of one traditional faith. I have a mix of several things I do. My Higher Power has given the ability to see into myself.  To grow and reflect. To be open-minded to explore the unknown and to accept not knowing is sometimes the answer. For me, being Spiritual is being at peace inside with who I am; today I can say….. I am at peace. My life is richly blessed.
