They say that addiction is a disease that can
never be cured. Those of us living with HIV know what it is like to have a
physical disease that can't be cured. I take meds for my HIV that are working,
but I don't know if they will work forever. I do know that if I never pick up a
drug again, I will not have to die from the disease of addiction.
If you are positive, you are not alone. There are
different support groups where you can find others who know what you going
through, like the ones offered at BABES. If you suffer from the disease of
addiction, please know that you also are not alone. There are support groups
for addiction all over the Seattle area where you can find others who know what
you are going through. For me it is a matter of letting go of the problem and
submerging myself in the solutions.
Seven
Months and counting
In my recovery I have been clean and sober for
seven months. Last year I went to jail. I had a lot of time to think during
this time. Back in December of 2004 I was really involved in doing Cocaine. I
was chasing Cashier Checks that were counterfeit just so I could support my
habit and keep up on my bills. 2004 was a really hard year for me. I wasn't
able to see my grandkids because I was doing cocaine, and I was smoking a
quarter a day. I was spending $300 a day on my habit. I thank God for last
year, because going back to jail changed my life for the better. September 7th
I was realeased from RJC and I had a month clean when I got out.
I want to thank all the BABES staff and my family
for helping me in my recovery. I have seven months clean, and I feel like I am
on top of the world!!

Ellos dicen
que la adicción es una enfermedad que nunca puede curarse. Esos que
vivimos con VIH sabemos que es significa tener una enfermedad física
incurable. Yo tomo medicinas que están funcionando para mi VIH, pero no
sé si van a funcionar para siempre. Yo sé que si nunca recojo la
droga otra vez, yo no tendré que morir de la enfermedad de
adicción.
Si eres
positivo, tu no estas solo. Hay diferentes grupos de apoyo donde puedes
encontrar a otros quienes saben por lo que estas pasando, entre ellos los
grupos ofrecidos por las BABES. Si sufres de adicción, por favor aprende
a que tu tampoco estas solo. Hay grupos de apoyo para adicciones en toda el
área de Seattle, en donde puedes encontrar a otros que saben lo que
estas pasando. Para mí es asunto de dejar ir el problema y sumergirme en
las soluciones.
Siete meses y aún contando…
En mi recuperación he
estado limpia y sobria por siete meses. El año pasado fui a la
cárcel. Tuve mucho tiempo para pensar durante este tiempo. En diciembre
del 2004 estuve muy involucrada con cocaína. Estuve cambiando cheques
falsificados para mantener mi hábito y mis cuentas. El año 2004
fue muy duro para mí. No pude ver a mis nietos por mi adicción a
la cocaína y estuve fumando un cuarto al día. Estuve gastando
$300 al día por mi hábito. Agradezco a Dios por el año
pasado, porque al regresar a la cárcel cambié mi vida por una
mejor. El 7 de septiembre salí libre del RJC, y ya tenía un mes
de estar limpia.
Quiero agradecer a todo el
personal de las BABES por ayudarme en mi recuperación. Tengo siete meses
limpia y ¡¡siento como que estoy por encima del mundo!!
