Positive Dreams

Twice a week for ten weeks, more than 20 BABES members and staff gathered in the old gym of our new building to learn movement techniques, practice voice exercises and workshop material for a community-wide performance about women and HIV. Facilitated by Caroline Brown of Emergence Collaborative, these amazing "Theater for Development" workshops were full of laughter, fear, silliness, anger, courage, tears, exploration, shouting to the space needle, dancing, singing, lapping, hugs … and sisterhood.

The result was an amazing show called Positive Dreams ~ Weaving Stories of Our Sisterhood. This self-devised piece used story-telling, comedy, music and dance to address the fears, hopes, achievements and dreams of women living with HIV. Performances took place at Seattle's Central Cinema June 6th-10th.

For those of you who weren't able to attend the show, this month's newsletter contains some of the stories the women wrote and performed on stage. In order to fit in as many stories as possible, we have put our regular columns on hold until next month.

As always, if you have a Positive Dream or other piece of writing you'd like to submit for future issues of the newsletter, please email the_staff@babesnetwork.org or call us at 206.720.5566 to talk more about your idea.

In the meantime, we hope you enjoy reading these Positive Dreams!
