HOPE

These last few months, BABES has been very busy doing lots of HIV awareness and education in Seattle and surrounding communities as far away as Bellingham! Our HOPE Project speakers have reached hundreds of kids at many area schools, as well as the local juvenile detention center. In May, BABES staff spoke to women and girls as part of a special Sexual Health Awareness event in Port Townsend, and we have also done some training for the YWCA staff to help ease the transition into our new building. We thought it was extremely important to help increase their HIV education, so that they could have a better understanding of the women we serve.
In June we had our biggest outreach event of all—performances of our theater project titled Positive Dreams ~ Weaving Stories of Our Sisterhood. The BABES members and staff involved in the show were able to express their fears, hopes, achievements, and dreams as women living with HIV. The performances were a huge success! Nearly 200 people attended, and we have had much positive feedback about how informative, eye-opening and entertaining it was. Shortly, we will have a DVD of the show available for purchase.
Looking forward to August and beyond, we are planning to resume with HOPE Project speaker trainings very soon. If you have been participating in the first series of trainings, please stay tuned for more information about Training #3. Also, if you weren’t able to attend the first series of trainings but are interested in becoming a speaking, we will be starting a new series soon, so again, please stay tuned for more details. A Note from the Program Manager
Dear BABES,
It’s been an incredibly busy few months for us at BABES and, due to the move to the new building, the Positive Dreams theater project, the BABES retreat and unexpected staffing shortages, we’ve had to close the office more often than normal. I’d like to take a moment to apologize to any of you who have had a hard time getting a hold of us, and to let you know that we’re here now if you need us. En éstos últimos meses, las BABES han estado muy ocupadas haciendo conciencia sobre educación en VIH en Seattle y las comunidades alrededor ¡tan lejanas como Bellingham! Conferencistas de nuestro Proyecto HOPE (ESPERANZA) han llegado a cientos de niños en muchas escuelas del area, así como en centros locales de detención juvenil. En mayo, el personal de las BABES habló con mujeres y niñas durante el evento especial sobre Conciencia sobre Salud Sexual en Port Townsend, y también dimos entrenamiento al personal del YWMA para facilitar la transición hacia nuestro nuevo edificio. Encontramos muy importante ayudar a elevar su educación sobre VIH, de esa manera tenndrían una mejor comprensión hacia las mujeres a las que servimos.
En junio tuvimos nuestro evento más grande hacia la comunidad -la presentación del proyecto de teatro Positive Dreams ~ Weaving Stories of Our Sisterhood (Sueños Positivos ~ Tejiendo historias de nuestra hermandad). Las BABES y el personal involucrado en la presentación pudieron expresar sus temores, esperanzas, alcances y sueños como mujeres viviendo con VIH. ¡Las presentaciones fueron un gran éxito! Casi 200 personas asistieron, y hemos tenido muchos comentarios positivos sobre lo informativo y entretenido que fueron. Pronto tendremos un DVD de la presentación para la venta.
Para agosto estamos planificando reiniciar el entrenamiento de conferencistas del Proyecto HOPE. Si has participado en las primeras series del entrenamiento, por favor mantente atento para más información sobre el entrenamiento #3. Además, si no has participado en las primeras series pero estas interesada en convertirte en conferencista, pronto espezaremos una nueva serie, así que atenta para mas detalles. Queridas BABES,
Han sido unos meses increíblemente ocupados para nosotras en las BABES y, debido al traslado hacia el nuevo edificio, el proyecto de teatro Positive Dreams (Sueños Positivos), el retiro de las BABES y la inesperada falta de personal, tuvimos que cerrar la oficina más frecuentemente que lo normal. Me gustaría disculparme con aquellas a quienes les ha costado contactarnos, asimismo quisiera decirles que ahora estamos aquí por si ustedes nos necesitan.
